Hawaiian Fabric constructions
On a trip to Hawaii, the brilliant colors and the indigenous quilting tradition were the inspiration for this series of work. The flowers danced before my eyes, enticed my camera to capture them and take them home. The quarter design of the traditional quilts that documented symbols of Hawaii called to me to "re-imagine" their balance.
I came home and began a process of drawing that flowed from my camera, through my computer to be shaped into the fabrics that I had been using for years ultrasuede and metallic silks.
